Temple rental utility changeover: avoid a gap between tenants
Repairs and cleaning can stall when utility dates do not match. Plan for the vacant days as well as move-in.

The resident moves out, the cleaner arrives, and the water is off. Plan for the days between tenancies as well as the new resident's start date. Decide who will hold each account during the vacancy and confirm service before scheduling work that depends on it. A requested account change can still be pending.
Find the provider for each service
Use the City's residential utility page for Temple utility account questions, then confirm the services and requirements for the address. Identify water, wastewater, and solid waste arrangements. Check electricity and gas separately where applicable; avoid assuming the city handles every account.
Include services the owner controls, such as an irrigation or security connection. Shared meters and special service arrangements need their own confirmation. Keep official provider contacts available to the person coordinating turnover. Share the access needed for the task securely instead of putting account passwords in a general vendor message.
Cover the vacant days
Compare the outgoing resident's requested end date with the incoming resident's start date. If work will happen between them, decide whether the owner or manager will arrange interim service under the lease and management agreement. Make sure the bills will reach the right person.
A simple schedule should show the account holder for each period and whether the provider has confirmed the change. This matters even if the vacancy is expected to be brief. A vendor date is still dependent on service until the provider confirms it. If a planned connection slips, adjust the work schedule before the contractor arrives.
Check what activation requires
Confirm current provider instructions for access, appointments, and attendance. Some arrangements may require someone to be present; do not build the schedule around an assumed remote or same-day activation. The attending person needs permission to be there and a clear understanding of what they are expected to do. Equipment checks that require a trade should stay with a qualified person. If the former resident still occupies the home or has belongings there, arrange lawful access separately. A utility account change does not settle entry permission. Confirm the actual visit with the resident through the appropriate process so attendance and service arrangements do not conflict.
Leave time to test the home
A dishwasher needs the relevant services before an operating check means much. Irrigation may need to be used appropriately before a problem becomes apparent. If a service is unavailable during the final walk-through, leave time to complete the affected checks after activation. Describe those items as untested in the meantime.
Cleaning and waste removal also need coordination. Verify collection arrangements for the address, including how bins or bulk material will be handled. After move-in, review interim and final bills for overlapping dates before assuming a billing error. Keep unnecessary personal details out of anything forwarded.
